Tri-Star Industries Ltd. of Yarmouth has inked a $2-million deal to provide Panama with a 911 emergency ambulance system. Tri-Star will provide Panama with a fleet of custom-built ambulances along with medical equipment and related services. The firm has also signed a second deal to provide the Panama Canal Authority with an advanced life support ambulance and equipment.

The company, which exports to 43 countries, is also signing a memorandum of understanding with Nova Scotia’s health ministry, Dalhousie University’s medical school and Panamanian officials to foster long-term co-operation between Nova Scotia and the Central American country.

"It is a gesture of commitment to creating a modern emergency health-care system for Panama," Tri-Star president Keith Condon said Tuesday in a relase.

His firm will lead a study of Panama’s requirements in implementing a comprehensive national 911 emergency ambulance service.

The service, a first in Central America, will start in Panama City before being rolled out countrywide.
