By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - No, I'm not dead or sick but thanks for asking. I spend a whole lot of time out of the office this week for several reasons resulting in a fall-off of production. I visited La Joya at the invitation of Lic. Carlos Landero, the director of Panama's Prison System, and got the grand tour with Alejandro Guerrero, the Warden of La Joya. They have a hard time taking care of the 2,142 inmates housed there every day (it's a tough job on their budget) and also met with the handful of American prisoners in Pabellon 6. If you're thinking about trying to smuggle some coke back to the US, I highly recommend against unless you would like to spend the next ten years with those guys. I also got over the Colon's "costa abajo" as far as Rio Indio where the bridge failed during the floods last November. Last night a few hundred people stayed up until midnight to get their new Harry Potter book. The Panamanian justice system is going through a crisis right now, and my wonderful mechanic Alvaro came through again. Anyway, it's been an interesting week to say the least, and now it's time to get caught back up. Hey, anybody seen my coffee cup? ...
