(Xinhua) Panama's sports delegation will be able to use its flag in the 15th Pan American Games, the Pan American Sports Organization (Odepa) stated on Friday in Rio de Janeiro. In a meeting on Thursday between Panama President Martin Torrijos and Odepa's president Mario Vazquez Rala, Odepa lifted the sanction impeding Panama from using its flag in the opening and closing ceremony in the 15th Pan American Games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had prohibited Panama from marching with its flag since the Panamanian Olympic Committee's presidency was held by Miguel Vanegas whom Odepa considered "an intruder." Vanegas presides Panama's committee due to a judicial decision not avowed by the IOC and he is accused of having spent 112,600 U.S. dollars without showing receipts. "President Torrijos promised to respect the Olympic Charters and Mario Vazquez lifted the sanction," Odepa's spokesman Mauricio Morales said. "The accord reached on Thursday night allows Panama's delegation to use its emblems, but it does not mean the issue is solved. Both parties clearly stated they are willing to do everything possible to solve the problem," he added.
