By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Well, "shiver me timbers" as he loves to say. The editor of The Panama News, Eric Jackson, has stolen from The Panama Guide. Copyright violation. Piracy. Thief. In the "News Briefs" section of his current issue, Jackson writes:"As to one of those whom Schueler has accused, however, the courts are not going to find him innocent or guilty. Late on November 10 in the Sea Cliff area of Santa Clara 35-year-old Ruperto Antonio Henry Marshall --- "Tony Henry" --- was shot in the back of the neck execution-style and left dead by the side of the road."
What, Exactly, Was Your Source For That, Eric? The local newspapers carried the report of the murder but they got the guy's name wrong. The only one who had the source tying the Richard Schueler case together with this murder was (wait for it...) Don Winner from Panama-Guide. And at the end of every article I publish I simply ask people to go ahead and use whatever they want, as long as they credit the source. So, Eric, either credit me as the source or stop ripping me off. You know how much copyright violators get under my skin. (more)
Jackson's Hypocrisy Drives Me Nuts: Take a good look at his "news briefs" section. It's nothing but him reading the paper and giving a rendition in English with no attribution (at all) to the hardworking reporters who go out and get the stories. So, it's just fine for him to rip off every media outlet in Panama, use their material, steal their content and claim it as his own - and then he has the balls to call me the copyright violator. Here's reality - his Spanish sucks and he can't do straight-up translations so a "gist" is as good as it gets.
Whatever... Jackson's stuff is so full of, well, Jackson, that it's virtually useless anyway. And, the readers out there are voting with their mouse buttons as Jackson continues to lose market share. One paper from the states hired him to write a story about kids dying in the interior and he got it (totally) wrong. In short, why should I care about this guy?
Well, I Don't Really: It's just that every now and again I have to stand up and call him on his bullshit. So, Eric, what was your source for the connection between the Richard Schueler case and the murder of Ruperto Antonio Henry Marshall? Go ahead, start looking for a Panamanian news source (you won't find one.) El Siglo came up the day after I published and asked in their gossip section if I had it right. This isn't the first time I've caught Eric Jackson ripping me off. He is a regular (closet) reader and he gets a lot of his concepts and strategic understanding of the politics and economics from me. Anyway, have a nice day Eric. Now, go stand in the corner.
