By José Otero for La Prensa - Panama's Solicitor General Ana Matilde Gomez sent a request to remove the Second Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Maribel Cornejo from her position as part of the formal criminal complaint filed by the Justices of the Supreme Court, accusing Cornejo of investigated the judges without having the legal right to do so. Sources within the Public Ministry say the request is included in the complaint filed on the 20th of June by the President of the Supreme Court Graciela Dixon. Cornejo will remain in her position until the Supreme Court justices of the Criminal Bench decide in the matter. The Criminal Bench of the Supreme Court is comprised of justices Dixon, Aníbal Salas and Esmeralda de Troitiño. Salas recused himself, saying he could not decide in the controversial incident involving the prosecutor.

Editor's Comment: This is the case of the $25,000 floating check which could have been used by an ex-president to buy a supreme court decision. The Supreme Court complained that Cornejo should not be doing the investigation and filed the criminal complaint. The only people who can order the removal of a sitting prosecutor are the justices of the supreme court. So, the same justices that filed the complaint are now going to decide if Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Cornejo should stay in her job, the same guys who she was investigating for being corrupt. Go - friggin' - figure. And then these same justices have the balls to get indignant when someone accuses them of being corrupt! Amazing. Simply amazing.

Little League is Over: Someone please inform Panama's Supreme Court that they can no longer continue to act like Panama is a small little backwater banana republic where no one really gives a rat's ass about corruption. At last count there could be about $200 billion dollars of direct foreign investment pouring into this place in the next dozen years or so, and the guys with that much money don't what to have to worry about corrupt Supreme Court judges. Or at least, please post a price list to make things easier. Sheesh...
