By Elizabeth Alveo and Horacio Trottman for El Siglo - The Director of the Land Registry of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) in Bocas del Toro, Roberto Prestán, with the possible complicity of other local authorities, supposedly gave a legal document for the purchase of land on an island in the province to three American citizens, according to a complaint filed by DarÃo Vanhorne, who claims to be the legal holder of rights of possession for the land granted by the MEF. "Prestán, in complicity with a lawyer who at first represented me legally, wanted to force me to sell the land, located on an island named Wild Cane Key in Bocas del Toro, in two parts to the Americans," he said. It said that she he refused to sell they supposedly used "ruses" with two lawyers to take his property away from him illegally. "The MEF employee offered to pay to me in two parts, one of $40,000 and another for $45,000 for the sale of the island, but as I did not accede months ago they took the property from me, not only destroying the small house that I had there, but also killing the animals that I raised there", Vanhorne denounced. "El funcionario del MEF ofreció pagarme en dos partes una de 40 mil y otra de 45 mil dólares para la venta de la isla, pero como no accedà hace unos meses me despojaron de la propiedad, no sólo destruyendo la pequeña casa que tenÃa, sino matando a los animales que ahà criaba", denunció Vanhorne.Subrayó que no puede ingresar a las tierras porque está custodiada por guardias de seguridad privados y agentes de la PolicÃa Nacional (PN) y, a pesar de que recurrió a las instancias legales para defender sus derechos, las autoridades locales no quieren involucrarse en el conflicto. "Muy por el contrario, han sido cómplices de este atropello que lo único que demuestra es el mar de corrupción que se vive en la provincia de Bocas del Toro, una vez entró en vigencia la ley que permite la compra de islas en la región y que fue promulgada en la Gaceta Oficial", indicó.Manifestó que si tiene que ir a la cárcel para defender lo que le corresponde legalmente lo hará, pero no permitirá que usen artimañas y corrupción para quitarle su propiedad sólo porque enfrenta el poder económico. La denuncia agrega que se desconoce la procedencia del documento, el sello y papel. Los funcionarios aceptan que son sus firmas las que aparecen en el citado documento, pero que el contenido es falso, aunado a esto la institución en mención no le certificó los derechos posesorios a Vanhorne. Los funcionarios indican que Vanhorne obtuvo el documento de Catastro con las firmas y falsificó el contenido e hizo la certificación.Sobre el mismo tema, El Siglo pudo conocer que la abogada Carmen Silva, los apoderados legales del consorcio Cinco Cruces de Oro Holding S.A y Prestán interpondrán una querella contra Vanhorne, por calumnia e injuria.
